Public prices for private canal walls are hard to find. Start with what is failing: one cracked cap section is often a repair, while a wall leaning along most of its length may not be. Most Key Colony Beach walls were designed for a 30-year life, and many have passed it. KCB Seawall Owner’s Manual A replacement in unincorporated Monroe County must keep the old footprint as far as practicable. Usually not. The federal flood policy lists seawalls, bulkheads and docks as property not insured, with a narrow exception for a wall that directly supports the house foundation.
